WHAT WE TREAT

Depression and other mood disorders

When your mood feels out of your control, it’s time to get help. Our clinicians match you with the treatment you need to feel better.

What is a mood disorder?

Mood disorders are a group of mental health conditions characterized by changes to your mood that, if left untreated, can make it hard to live your life to the fullest. Common symptoms include sadness, irritability, and changes in appetite or sleep.

Geode’s approach to treating mood disorders

Understanding your condition

Your Geode clinician will conduct a one hour, face-to-face evaluation to get to know you and better understand the issues you are facing.

Matching you to the right treatment

Beyond talk therapy, this may include medication to improve symptoms and stabilize your mood, or self-care techniques to promote overall physical and mental well being.

Measuring your improvement

We will regularly measure your progress with objective reporting tools to see if you are improving, or if we need to make changes to your treatment plan.

Mood disorders Geode clinicians successfully treat

Depression, also known as major depressive disorder, is more than an occasional feeling of sadness or a difficult time. Without proper treatment, depressive episodes can last for months or years. It can affect all ages.

The good news is that Geode Health has helped many patients successfully overcome their depression. A comprehensive treatment plan may include medication, talk therapy, healthy lifestyle changes, and/or advanced treatments.

Possible symptoms:
Persistent sadness, low energy or motivation, poor concentration, changes in sleep or weight/feelings of worthlessness

Dysthymia is a milder type of depression that lasts for a long time, often years. People with dysthymia may feel sad, hopeless, and have low self-esteem; however, their symptoms are usually less severe than major depression.

While it can be challenging to live with dysthymia, it is treatable with therapy and sometimes medication. Talking to one of our clinicians can be a helpful first step to feeling better.

Possible symptoms:
Poor appetite or overeating, insomnia or excessive sleep, low energy, low self esteem, poor concentration, indecision, hopelessness

Treatment-resistant depression (TRD) is experienced by individuals who have not responded to standard treatments such as therapy or medication. This makes it hard to overcome symptoms or improve their quality of life.

Geode Health provides specialized care for individuals with TRD. We use the latest, evidence-based approaches and medications tailored to each individual to help them achieve the best possible outcome.

Possible symptoms:
Ongoing depression symptoms, despite prior treatment

Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition characterized by major shifts in mood, sleep, energy, and activity levels—from very high, to very low.

Without proper treatment, bipolar disorder can cause major disruptions in people’s lives. It can sometimes result in hospitalization. However, a comprehensive plan that includes talk therapy, medication, and a healthy lifestyle, can help people manage their condition and live happy, fulfilling lives.

Possible symptoms:
Manic (extremely high) mood and activity level, sometimes with little need for sleep, followed by depressive episodes

A variety of mood disorders may develop as a result of other health conditions, such as thyroid disease, cancer, or diabetes. Certain medications may also cause worrying changes in mood.

If you are experiencing symptoms of a mood disorder, it is important to consult with a mental health professional as soon as possible. Getting the right diagnosis is the first step, followed by a treatment plan to help you feel like yourself again.
