Meet Sofia

The most significant growth I’ve had in my own life has been a direct result of therapy centered around self-love and acceptance. My own experiences and what I have witnessed others achieve through therapy has led me to become passionate about creating a safe space for others. My goal is to create an environment where clients feel supported in facing whatever is bringing them to therapy. It is important to acknowledge that there are challenging aspects to therapy, and I have found that in the face of trauma, loss, and transitions, humor has a place and can serve in healing. I believe that the therapeutic relationship we have between us as a therapist and client is the strongest tool that we have. We may laugh or naturally talk about the randomness of life during our sessions. It is my goal that clients who work with me feel comfortable and at ease during our sessions. I am dedicated to creating an open-minded and non-judgmental space where laughing, crying, venting and all the things are perfectly welcome during our sessions. I believe that you have the power and strength to grow and change from within, and the goal during our sessions would be to provide you with the tools to get you there. I like to take a holistic approach in my style of therapy. I strive to be compassionate and genuine with my clients while we are on the journey of growth and healing. I am typically eclectic with interventions used in sessions, depending on what would work best for the clients presenting concerns. My theoretical orientations are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT). I have found these modalities to be highly beneficial for clients to accept and embrace their thoughts and feelings while identifying their triggers and learn ongoing coping skills. I have gained therapeutic experience from working in private practice, a university counseling center, non-profit settings, a high school setting and a partial hospitalization program in an adolescent behavioral hospital setting. These experiences have provided me with clients of various socioeconomic backgrounds and under-resourced communities. My experience has been primarily working with adolescent and young adult populations focusing on anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, codependency issues, attachment styles, adjustment concerns, mood disorders, and personality disorders.
