Meet Laura
I have been a registered nurse since 1992, working in burn critical care, trauma critical care, emergency room, and surgery. These work experiences have allowed me to witness the intersection of medical emergencies with different aspects of mental health. These opportunities increased my empathy and curiosity about ways to help. As a young girl, I struggled with mental health issues, and I appreciate the impact a caring clinician can have on a patient’s life. In addition to nursing, I have an undergraduate degree in nutrition and chemistry, and I am a former small business owner. These experiences have helped me appreciate the importance of a holistic approach to mental health. Becoming a PMHNP allowed me to integrate my life experiences, professional history, and education in a way to better serve those struggling with mental health. My training foundation is based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with clinical experiences at Psychiatric Professionals of Georgia, public health agencies, and various volunteer ministries that involve homelessness and human trafficking. I am excited to help patients discover treatment options that are not only evidence-based but also holistic. I am excited to partner with clients to build a trusting relationship that provides a realistic path towards better mental health. I grew up in Tennessee and moved to North Georgia when I married. I have been married for 30 years and have two grown children. I enjoy being outside and running with my husky.
