Meet Kelsey
1. I started working in the mental health field in May of 2020, during COVID as a registered nurse. My first job was in an acute adult inpatient unit. However, I have had the opportunity both as an RN and a PMHNP student to work adult inpatient, detox, behavioral health corrections, PHP, outpatient, and on an ACT team primarily caring for adults. 2. I've known I wanted to work in mental health since I was about 13. My brother, who struggled with bipolar disorder had difficulty getting access to a mental health professional in the early 2000s. We would travel from Roswell, NM to Dallas, TX for his psychiatric appointments. I fell in love with psychiatry when I saw the difference it made for my loved ones. 3. I have a special interest in treating major depressive disorder, anxiety, PTSD, substance use disorders, and bipolar disorder. A majority of my training both as an RN and as a PMHNP student focused on this population of patients. 4. I have been able to utilize my training as a board-certified psychiatric RN as well as my CPI experience to approach patients with a holistic, trauma informed approach to provide compassionate care for patients. Now as a board certified PMHNP, I am able to carry that training forward with me. 5. I'd describe my approach with patients as professional, but warm and collaborative.
